YOUR

FRAGRANCE NOTES

COMPANION

Top notes

Top notes are the first thing you smell when you spray on perfume. They are the HEAD notes. They last between 5 - 15 mins before transitioning into the heart notes. They are important in the selling of the product as they are what initially attracts the customer. The compounds that contribute to top notes are strong in scent, very volatile, and evaporate quickly. Because of that, they do not linger as long on the skin.

 Common Head notes are  :

Citrus (lemon, orange zest, bergamot), light fruits ( grapefruit, berries) and herbs (clary, sage, lavender).

Heart notes

Middle notes are known as the Heart notes of perfumes. They give them their personality. They build onto the top notes and give off a captivating scent to deepen the user experience. Lasting between 20-60 mins, middle notes are what you smell a few hours after spraying perfume. They serve as a buffer for the base notes who have stronger scents and are usually a smooth combination of floral or fruit tones, sometimes infused with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg or cardamom.

 Common Heart notes are :

Geranium, rose, lemongrass, ylang ylang, lavender, coriander, nutmeg, neroli and jasmine.

Base notes

The base notes are the dry-down of perfumes. It's what you smell after wearing it for hours. They kick in at the 60 mins mark and last until you can't smell it anymore. The longevity of these notes depends on your natural scent. They are the underlying aroma in your perfume. The oils used for these notes tend to be deep and rich. Base notes often include musk aromas and woody notes.

Common Base notes are :

Cedarwood, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, oud, patchouli, vetiver, oakmoss and musk.
